Sunday 7th April saw a performance at Broadway URC of John Stainer's famous Passiontide oratorio "The Crucifixion". Scored for SATB chorus, tenor & baritone solosists and organ, the church choir was augmented by friends from other churches including St Mary the Virgin, Sedgley, soloists Nicholas Hardy and Matthew Dawson, and organist Christopher Stormont. The performance was conducted by Broadway URC's Organist & Choir-director, Alan Taylor.
The oratorio is subtitled "A Meditation on the Sacred Passion of the Holy Redeemer" and includes five hymns for congregational participation. The text was written by Revd W J Sparrow Simpson, but uses extensive quotations from scripture.
